In this lecture/demonstration, Ramya Harishankar, the award winning Artistic Director and Choreographer for the Irvine based Arpana Dance Company, will give a peek into the use of Abhinaya (the idiom of interpretive dance unique to Bharata Natyam, a classical dance of India) in storytelling and poetry or lyrical interpretation. At the end of the lecture/demonstration, Ramya Harishankar will be joined by Dr. S. Charusheela for a discussion of the relationship between Bharata Natyam and broader terrain of Indian culture and tradition. This lecture-demonstration is free and open to the public.
