A poet working in hybrid genres and traditions, Laura Mullen's work shows the influence of writers as canonical as Henry James and Edgar Allen Poe. Her diverse modes--they run from a series of sonnets written from the sleuthful perspective of Sherlock Holmes to the postmodern-gothic and prose-poetry-crime novel-language text of "Murmur" (2007)--hold up a mirror to the limits of language.
