| Description: |
Created by the Atomic Testing Museum, a dynamic and interactive educational exhibit, Building Atomic Vegas, opened to the public on January 28, 2011 and will be available until January 28, 2012. The exhibit chronicles the interconnection between the building of the historic Nevada Test Site and the growth of Las Vegas during the 1950s,1960s, and 1970s. The program will promote a better understanding of the Cold War era in Las Vegas and the culture that developed as a result of it. Lectures and panels have included Christopher Bright, Nuclear Defense during the Eisenhower Era on February 22, Michon Mackedon, Pop Culture and Atomic Age, on April 2; and Night at the Museum (for families) in May, 2011. Ann Ronald will give a talk, Friendly Fallout, in the fall of 2011. For more information, contact the Atomic Testing Museum at 702-794-5151 or see www.atomictestingmuseum.org. This program is funded in part by Nevada Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities. |
