Description: The 10th annual Great Basin Languages Conference is a gathering of persons working in the field of native language preservation and revival, both native and non-native. The theme, Empowering Our Native Language Warriors, identifies all those who fight to keep our native languages alive. Keynote speaker Anthony “Thomas” Morning Owl, of Umatilla descent and a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Pendleton, Oregon, will speak about their success in providing language learning opportunities for all three tribal groups on the reservation. This program is funded in part by Nevada Humanities, Nevada’s nonprofit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
