The Humanities Are Made For This Moment
By Christina Barr
In times of crisis we turn to the things we know. We naturally turn to our historians to understand the past so that we can manage the present and envision the future, we turn to our poets to see meaning in the things that we might have missed in our busy, overwrought lives, and we dig deep into our cultural traditions to ground us in our families – especially as we isolate ourselves for the good of our communities. This is the humanities writ large in our lives – how we process, document, express, comprehend, and live the human experience.
Now as in every crisis, we turn to each other.
It is in this spirit of connection that we ask you to join with us and make a donation to Nevada Humanities to support our work and your community.
Your donation will connect Nevadans to each other, investigate ideas that matter to our communities, and chart a path towards community health and recovery.
A gift to Nevada Humanities right now will immediately make a difference by supporting programs that encourage civility, civic engagement, and empathy – qualities that heal, drive change, and make democracy thrive.
$500 supports our efforts to continue critical dialogue about today’s issues by offering virtual conversation Salons, where people come together online to spark ideas and discuss topics of statewide importance.
$250 supports the Double Down Blog, our online arena for Nevadans to share their stories and experiences. Double Down has become an important forum, bringing Nevada voices to a wide audience on a weekly basis.
$100 supports our general operations and pays for critical expenses that keep our doors open and our programs free and available to all.
Please donate today. When this pandemic finally runs its course, we will come together to rebuild our state and celebrate who we are as Nevadans. Nevada Humanities will continue to connect people around the state and across ideological divides, to address issues of importance, and to strengthen our community bonds with deeper engagement in rich intellectual and cultural lives. This is essential work; the humanities were made for this moment.
It’s easy to make a donation online. Visit nevadahumanities.org/donate and please consider becoming a monthly donor. Every little bit adds up to big things and your monthly gift will sustain Nevada Humanities in powerful ways.
Sending you warm wishes for a safe and healthy summer and fall from all of us at Nevada Humanities.
