Darkness

By Flynn Dexter

I would like
To reach into the darkness
With my arms
And scoop it into my hands
(Amorphous jell-o)

Feel the weight of it
Entirely separate from hearts.

I would like to put my darkness
Into a zip lock,
Take it home
To my kitchen,
Hang it to dry from a knob,
And crunch the darkness up.

I would put darkness on everything.

Sprinkle it—
Darkness does not taste like pepper,
Darkness
Fills the craving
For things we have not
Made peace with
Yet.
