What Does It Take to Build and Belong to a More Perfect Union?

By Staff of Nevada Humanities

Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce A More Perfect Union—a new initiative of events and programs that will deepen our appreciation for the connections between the humanities, our community stories, and the history of the United States. Join us this year as we tell the untold stories of our state, the quest to build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable society, and what it means to build a more perfect union.

“As we think about the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, especially in the wake of the turmoil and issues that have evolved over the past two years in our nation, it is important to gather together to ask important questions about the founding of our democracy and how, as citizens, we can support democratic principles and civic participation in our communities. A More Perfect Union will do just that. Throughout 2022, Nevada Humanities is facilitating these conversations with diverse communities across the state. We hope you will be able to join us for these programs and contribute to the ideas and perspectives that emerge.”

— Christina Barr, Executive Director of Nevada Humanities

Programs include:

Building a More Perfect Union: A Conversation with Danielle Allen | February 23, 2022 at 4 - 5 pm PST on Zoom
Join Nevada Humanities for a conversation about the importance of civics in education and in everyday life with Harvard University-based political theorist and visionary Danielle Allen. Allen will be in conversation with Debra Moddelmog, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno, and the conversation will be followed by an audience Q+A. You can learn more and register HERE.

If you missed it, tune in to An Introduction to Black Springs, NV, an online conversation hosted on January 19, 2022, about the history of a neighborhood located in the North Valleys, just north of downtown Reno. The evening was moderated by Angie Taylor and featured past and present residents and community supporters of Black Springs, with an overview of some ongoing collaborative projects to document and promote the neighborhood's history. If you missed the event, you can watch the recording here, and stay tuned for more stories from Black Springs.
