Mi abuela pinta
Con sus manos,
En la cocina chiquitita.
Pollo con frijoles y arroz
Tortillas, tamales, pupusas
Todo con cafecito.
Ella y su hermana
Tia Elva
Cocinando todo el día.
Pero no hay una mañana perfecta
Sin cafecito
Y chisme.
Recuerdo mi tia Elva y mi abuela Noemi
Sonriendo y carcajeando
Pero sobre todo, juntas estarán .
desde antes del nacimiento,
En vida y muerte
y después de la vida
siempre.

With her hands,
In the kitchen little girl
Chicken with beans and rice

All with coffee.

Cooking all the day
But there isn't one perfect morning
Without coffee
And gossip.
I remember my aunt Elva and my grandmother Noemi
Smiling and laughing
But about everything, together they will be.
since before birth,
In life and death
and after life
always.
Brooke Arita-Zamora is studying at Nevada State College (NSC) for a bachelors in English Literature and minor in Creative Writing. She has made appearances in FWPCC and URCW in which she earned second place for the English panel. She is also part of NSC’s Blue Sage Writer’s Guild.
