Desert Oasis: Passage of Time and Places
By Valentin Yordanov
Step into Desert Oasis: Passage of Time and Places — an exhibition of works in which I merge the dynamic energy of urban life with the timeless beauty of the desert. Inspired by urban generation, environmental transformation, and everyday life, I aim to capture the essence of interconnected layers of environments through bold, geometric abstractions.
The exhibition’s centerpiece, Neon Dreams, embodies the merging of neon-lit urban grids with the flowing lines of nature, reflecting the vibrant interplay between cityscapes and desert horizons. I blend the factual precision of traditional street maps with my imaginative interpretations, creating a tapestry that evokes community, connection, and the symbiosis of urban vibrancy and natural landscape.
Through Desert Oasis, I document my perception of the changing world—where cities like Las Vegas and natural wonders converge into one organic whole. My passion for travel, architecture, and design informs every aspect of my art, from painterly depictions to large-scale installations that integrate paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculptural constructions.
This exhibition invites viewers to experience Nevada as a harmonious mosaic of environments, where dramatic canyons and desert horizons coexist with the bold architectural forms of the city. The exhibited works transform the geography of place, offering a fresh perspective on the interconnectedness of our world. Through Desert Oasis: Passage of Time and Places, I use my passion for travel, architecture, and design to create art that bridges the worlds of the natural and the urban, the real and the imagined.
Valentin Yordanov (b. 1986, Bulgaria) is a Las Vegas-based contemporary artist known for his dynamic geometrical abstract paintings and large-scale installations. With an MFA degree from Bulgaria and further studies at the Bucharest National Academy of Arts, Yordanov’s education included drawing intensives and exhibitions across Europe in cities including Vienna and Budapest. In 2010, he relocated to Las Vegas, where he established his studio and has since developed a prolific career as an artist.
Combining the factual precision of traditional street maps with his own interpretation of the local environment, these large-scale compositions document the artist’s perception of the great cities of Europe, Asia and North America. Yordanov has since created large-scale dynamic installations built up from individual components comprising paintings, drawings, photographs, wall drawings and sculptural, billboard-like constructions.
