The 20th Annual Las Vegas Jewish Film Festival, Anti-Defamation League of Nevada, Jewish Community Center and Jewish Nevada are presenting a powerful new award-winning documentary film entitled “Shared Legacies: the African American Jewish Civil Rights Alliance” and hosting a FREE online live webinar with the film's director Dr. Shari Rogers, Civil Rights Activist Heather Booth and UNLV Director of Oral History Claytee White on Wednesday, June 17 at 5PM.
SHARED LEGACIES looks at the historic alliance between Blacks and Jews. It begins with the founding of the NAACP in 1909 and showcases the bigotry and segregation that both groups have faced. There are narrations and testimonies from Holocaust survivors, leaders, and advocates such as U.S. Rep. John Lewis, Ambassador Andrew Young, Rabbi Alvin Sugarman, Rabbi Peter S. Berg, members of the King family, and many others. SHARED LEGACIES contends with our issues of systemic racism that engulf us in the current national crisis and pursues the aspiration of Dr. King to create a "coalition of conscience."
SHARED LEGACIES can be viewed now until Wednesday June 17:
