Join us for a conversation and generative workshop with award-winning author Kendra Atleework and Clark County Poet Laureate Angela M. Brommel about the magic of incorporating place in your prose and poetry. We will take a brief look at writers whose work is grounded in place, and then we will work with prompts to explore the significance of place in our own writing.

Kendra Atleework was born and raised on the dry edge of California at the eastern base of the Sierra Nevada mountains. She moved away for a decade, mostly spent being homesick and researching the place she left behind—the product of which is Miracle Country. She is the recipient of the Ellen Meloy Desert Writers Award and was selected for The Best American Essays, edited by Ariel Levy. She received her MFA in creative writing from the University of Minnesota and now lives in her hometown of Bishop, California.
Angela M. Brommel is a Nevada writer with Iowa roots, and the current Clark County Poet Laureate. In 2018, her chapbook, Plutonium & Platinum Blonde, was published by Serving House Books. Her poetry has been published in The Best American Poetry blog, The North American Review, The Literary Review’s (TLR) Share, and many other journals and anthologies. A 2018 Red Rock Canyon Artist in Residence, Angela served as the inaugural poet of the program. She earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University and an MA in Theatre from the University of Northern Iowa. Mojave in July is her debut full-length poetry collection.
