Nevada Reads with DRI Scientists
We asked scientists from the Desert Research Institute what they thought about our Nevada Reads books. Miracle Country: A Memoir by Kendra Atleework, and World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments by Aimee Nezhukumatathil, emphasize a wonder and appreciation for our natural world, and encourage readers to better understand how we fit into (and share responsibility for) the ecological structure of our planet. Scientists from DRI have read and reviewed the two books, and we will be featuring their thoughts here through the end of October 2021.
Nevada Humanities is thrilled to partner with the Desert Research Institute (DRI) for our Nevada Reads program. DRI is a recognized world leader in basic and applied environmental research. Since 1959, DRI’s research has advanced scientific knowledge on topics ranging from human’s impact on the environment to the environment’s impact on humans. DRI’s impactful science and inspiring solutions support Nevada’s diverse economy, provide science-based educational opportunities, and inform policymakers, business leaders, and community members. Through this partnership, we look forward to highlighting the important work and research of scientists in our state, and we are excited to show how the sciences and humanities intersect and connect with one another.
