Las Vegas Jewish Film Festival–André: The Voice of Wine
Wine has a long and storied history in Judaism, dating back to biblical times. Archeological evidence shows that wine was produced throughout ancient Israel.
Almost all Jewish holidays, including Passover, Purim and Shabbat require blessing sanctified by drinking wine.
According to the Midrash, the forbidden fruit that Eve ate and gave to Adam was not an apple but the grape from which wine is derived.
At Jewish marriages, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and especially at circumcisions, the obligatory blessing (Kiddush) of Borei Pri HaGafen ("Blessed are you O Lord, Who created the fruit of the vine") is recited over wine.
The film documents the incredible life story of Andre Tchelistcheff, the man who, more than anyone, influenced Napa Valley vintners on how to make fine wine.
His innovative techniques influenced an entire generation of American winemakers. The film narrated by Ralph Fiennes features interviews with Warren Winiarski, Mike Grgich and Francis Ford Coppola, along with famous Italian and French winemakers.
