Nevada Reads In Your Library—Poetry as Self-Care with Joanne Mallari

  • Sparks Library 1125 12th Street Sparks, NV, 89431 United States (map)

How can language help us tune in to the present moment? In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, we will turn to poetry as a means of practicing mindfulness. This hands-on workshop will invite participants to respond to selected poems and draft original content. No experience is necessary, open to all ages. Please call the Sparks Library at 775-352-3200 to register in advance.

Joanne Mallari teaches writing and related courses in the Department of English at the University of Nevada, Reno. She is the author of Daughter Tongue, a chapbook that explores hybrids of identity from the perspective of a second-generation Filipino-American. Her poetry has been published in journals including Crab Orchard Review, Palimpsest, and Haight Ashbury Literary Journal, which nominated her work for a Pushcart Prize. Born in southern California and raised in Las Vegas, she has called Reno home since 2008.

Nevada Reads In Your Library brings authors and literary programming to public libraries across Nevada. This program is produced by Nevada Humanities and is made possible with support from Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
