A Black Springs Homecoming Watch Party

  • PBS Reno Community Room 1670 North Virginia Street Reno, NV, 89503 United States (map)

Join Nevada Humanities and PBS Reno for a watch party celebrating the inaugural public airing of the award-winning documentary A Black Springs Homecoming: Finding History on PBS Reno. This short documentary film is produced by Nevada Humanities and directed by Tsanavi Spoonhunter, and tells the story of Black Springs—a small, historically African American neighborhood six miles north of downtown Reno, Nevada—and the ability of its residents to establish an enduring sense of community in the face of widespread racial discrimination and economic hardship.

Doors open at 5:30 pm with a reception and refreshments. We will screen the 30 minute film at 6:00 pm followed by a short Q+A with Helen Townsell, Demetrice Dalton, Alicia Barber, and Tsanavi Spoonhunter. Space is limited; we encourage you to register in advance. Free parking is available.

A Black Springs Homecoming: Finding History will air on PBS Reno on February 6, 2024, at 9 pm and again on February 9, 2024, at 11:30 pm.

Support for this program comes from Nevada Humanities, PBS Reno, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust, and the City of Reno Arts and Culture Commission. For more information about A Black Springs Homecoming: Finding History visit nevadahumanities.org.
