Join leading scholar on Black horror films, Dr. Mikal Gaines (MCPHS), for his analysis of Jordan Peele’s horror western Nope. Nope is Peele’s third feature film, which builds on the massive success of 2017’s Get Out. Dr. Gaines will help us understand the complexity of Peele’s creature feature, connecting the film to theories of Blackness, abjection, and violence that have been important to recent studies of Black horror cinema.
This is an in-person event that is free and open to the public.
A community talk back and watch party for an online film screening of Nope will take place on Tuesday April 9, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm PT over Zoom. Learn more about the film screening and watch party and register here.
This event is co-sponsored by Nevada Humanities.
