Join us for a special live-streamed program with Paromita Pain, Associate Professor of Global Media at the Reynolds School of Journalism, University of Nevada, Reno. During the first hour of this Humanities at Play program, we will play the narrative cooking game Venba while discussing gender and labor, diaspora, and more. The second hour of our program will consist of an interactive Q&A and interview where we will learn more about topics including cross-cultural LGBTQIA+ activism, social media and anti-Asian hate crimes, citizen journalism, and gender and media.
Paromita Pain is an Associate Professor, Global Media Studies, & Cybersecurity Center Affiliate Faculty, University of Nevada, Reno. She is also an Affiliate Faculty at the Ozmen Institute.
Her research focuses on alternate media and global journalism practices from feminist perspectives. International communication and newsroom norms are an abiding area of interest. She has researched journalism and news practices in India, Taiwan, the USA, and Venezuela. LGBTQ issues in the international arena also motivate much of her work and she has published two edited volumes on this that look at how digital platforms and social media have enhanced activism in this area. Pain’s research in this area comprises countries like Morocco, Bangladesh, India, Taiwan and Turkey among others. By documenting these voices, she hopes we can move towards a more equitable world.
