  • Twitch twitch.tv/humanitiesatplay (map)

Join us for a conversation with artist and former criminal defense attorney Jeannie Hua! We will play Aviary Attorney while mapping out Jeannie's journey from lawyer to artist, within the context of Asian American diaspora and corollary life experiences.

Jeannie Hua is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily with mixed media but also in video and performance. She graduated last summer from the MFA program from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her connection to Chicago started as an art history undergraduate at the University of Chicago. After spending a year in Taiwan working as an English teacher and street musician, Jeannie attended Northwestern School of Law of the College of Lewis and Clark. After practicing criminal defense in Las Vegas for 20+ years, Jeannie decided to return to her love of art. This past summer, she exhibited works at First Street Gallery in NYC as well as Woman Made Gallery in Chicago. She has also exhibited in galleries and museums in Virginia, Wisconsin, Oregon, Nevada, California, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New York, and Orquevaux, France. She’s been awarded scholarships and grants including the Denis Diderot award for Chateau Orquevaux artist residency, merit scholarship for Ox-Bow School of Art, and grants from Nevada Arts Council. Her work has appeared in publications such as Oyster River Pages. This summer, she will be teaching an "Art on the Meadows" workshop at Ox-Bow School of Art.
